Rather than knowingly let you drive on he figured stopping you and checking for anything outstanding would slow you down and not interrupt whatever it was they were upto. I am willing to bet these cops were not highway patrols, correct? if not this is most likely the reason why you got off scot-free. Next time try a better lie.

After being pulled over by a local cop on the northside of dallas on I-35 south doing about 80 in a 55 at ~4AM (just 3 hrs into my 14 hr sprint to Charleston SC), the officer asks for my documents. Before I give him a chance to go back to his car and write me a monster ticket. I tell him I am very sorry for driving so fast but that I am on my way to Austin (3 hrs south) and am trying to get there as fast as possible because my girl just went into labor and its my first child! (very low yes, but seriously effective, I'd rather be a low lying bastard than have to sell my Z as a result of one ticket). He takes my stuff goes back to his car and returns with a written warning and tells me to slow it down or that baby wont have a daddy for very long (sucker!!). Of course it helped that he saw my military ID in my wallet as I was retrieving my DL. Feel free to use and tweak this one to your situation as needed. My friend used the same lie on his way to iowa from OKC and also got off scot-free. Or just keep on speeding past cops who obviously were sent out by the office on an urgent donut run.
